IXTOC-1 named themselves after a huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico on 3 June 1979, shortly before they were forming. Again, despite its clever political implications, IXTOC-1 was not a good choice for a Punk band name. Ölpest (Oil Spill) would have been better. The band recorded the 12'' ''Gut Ist Was Modern Ist'' in 1982, that was more refined and progressive, while still largely remaining Punk.
